Looking Ahead to 2010
|
|
|
2009 was a year of challenges for the hospitality and
tourism industry. Faced with a rough economy,
attractions and destinations alike looked to
partnerships and strategic marketing initiatives to
meet projections while preserving
quality.
2010 will begin on a great note. On
the leadership front, Independence Visitor Center has
a new president and CEO in Jim Cuorato. The
Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau will
sadly mark the retirement of Tom Muldoon at the end
of 2010 but will have
Jack Ferguson on board to take the
helm.
The City of Philadelphia is empowered
with a new brand and mark and Greater Philadelphia
Tourism Marketing Corporation continues to spread
awareness and bring visitors and spending to the
region.
Attractions are also buoyed by new
grants from both Greater Philadelphia Cultural
Alliance and the City of Philadelphia to build
audiences and awareness of the thriving cultural
scene.
While there may be long roads ahead, the tourism
and hospitality industry has emerged stronger than
ever. Here's to a successful 2010 for all.

Eight Maids A Milking
|
|
|
Each year we highlight PNC Bank's real cost of
the Twelve Days of Christmas, released in their
annual survey. In 2009, "Eight Maids a Milking" are
still working for minimum wage, which saw an
increase in 2009. In the last three years, the Maids-a-
Milking have seen their wages rise by $2.10 per hour,
a total increase of 41 percent. Hiring the maids this
year is still a bargain at a cost of $58.00, only $5.60
more than a year ago.
