Stories of the Paul Robeson House to Launch October 20
|
|
Oral histories provide some of the richest stories of
our history and times. On October 20th, a new oral
history will be released: STORIES FROM THE
PAUL ROBESON HOUSE: Lives Touched by a
Renaissance Man. This book and CD explore the
life of Paul Robeson through those who knew him or
were touched by his legacy.
This dynamic project tells the story of Paul Robeson
the singer, musican, activist and renaissance man --
just a few of his many personas. It also sheds light on
his time in Philadelphia through those who knew him
and knew the neighborhood at 4951 Walnut Street,
now home to the Paul Robeson House.
The House is administered by West Philadelphia
Cultural Alliance and hosts programming, tours,
lectures and community activities. Tours are available
by appointment.
The Alliance promotes and supports
individual artists and advocates for community and
economic empowerment through the arts. It produces,
presents and promotes exhibitions as well as
educational and community programs, and provides
accessible learning experiences
about Paul Robeson to people of all ages and
cultures.

HOUSE is funded by The Pew Center for
Arts &
Heritage through the Heritage Philadelphia Program
with
additional support from the Marketing Innovation
