Philadelphia fans are known for their loyalty, win or lose. But where else but Historic Germantown do fans come out year after year for a losing battle?
The Revolutionary Germantown Festival will be held on Saturday, October 2, 2010, and will commemorate the Battle of Germantown, the only battle of the Revolutionary War fought on Philadelphia soil.
And while the brave fighters fell to the British on October 4, 1777, their bravery so impressed European nations that it was a contributing factor in the French joining with the Continental Army to ultimately defeat the British.
Activities range from battle reenactments at noon and 3 pm, to a full day of activities at Cliveden of the National Trust, in addition to the opportunity to visit all of the sites of Freedom's Backyard. Admission to the battle is free. You can also purchase a passport to visit all of the sites of Historic Germantown for just $15.00 for individuals and $25.00 for families.
This year, visitors can truly make a weekend for the family in the Germantown area. The fun kicks off Friday with Mount Airy's First Friday celebration, followed by the Revolutionary Germantown Festival on Saturday and Chestnut Hill's Fall for the Arts Festival on Sunday.
