I don't know if I was drawn to this book because of its overwhelming reviews or because the author previously wrote a marketing book based on lessons learned from the Grateful Dead, but the 2^nd edition of The New Rules of Marketing and PR did not disappoint. Its subtitle makes it very clear what you will learn --  How to Use Social Media, Blogs, News Releases, Online Video and Viral Marketing to Reach Buyers Directly.

 

While this book has been around for a few years, the second edition adds content to take it beyond the realm of those "in the business" and bring in business owners and decision makers. A word of caution -- it is not a book to be read quickly or to be quoted out of context for reasons to abandon traditional advertising or public relations. Instead it turns old school communications on its ear a bit with a reminder that content drives results.

 

After all, messages are no longer mere interruptions to your activities -- they are direct results of your activities. Content needs to be adjusted accordingly.
